A short writeup of the historic dice game called Hazard.

Mentioned in Alphonso X's Book of Games, written between 1251 and 1282 A.D., but known before that time and popular until the 19th century in various forms. Requires two dice and any number of players. Player rolling the dice (called the 'roller' below) covers all other bets.

The first player to roll the dice tries for a 'main' point from 5 to 9. If he rolls 1-4 or 10-12 he passes the dice to the next player. If he hits an acceptable main point, bets are made. The roller rolls again and one of the following things happens.

If main point is 5 and 5 is rolled, roller wins. If 2,3,11 or 12 are rolled, he loses.
If main point is 6 and 6 or 12 is rolled, roller wins. If 2, 3 or 11 are rolled, he loses.
If main point is 7 and 7 or 11 are rolled, roller wins. If 2, 3 or 12 are rolled, he loses.
If main point is 8 and 8 or 12 are rolled, roller wins. If 2, 3 or 11 are rolled, he loses.
If main point is 9 and 9 is rolled, roller wins. If 2, 3, 11 or 12 are rolled, he loses.

If one of the above happens, the game is over and the dice are passed to a new roller for the next game.
If none of the above happens, the roll total is now the 'chance' point. More bets are placed and roller rolls the dice again. Now the only numbers that matter are the main point and the chance point. If the roller rolls the main point, he loses. If he rolls the chance point, he wins. He keeps rolling until one of these things happens. If the roller wins, he retains the dice and rolls the next game, if he loses he passes the dice to the next player.
